Yes, Wave Outdoors Pools designs and builds in-ground pools for homes in Mount Prospect, which sits inside our regular service area. The first step is a consultation, followed by an assessment of your property and site.
From there the plan settles the pool type, the rear-yard setback, the fence line and the surround, and Wave handles village permits and engineering coordination. Custom gunite and concrete pools lead our work; fiberglass, vinyl-liner and above-ground installations are built when the site and budget point that way.

Project planning
Pool options
Wave leads with custom gunite and concrete pools, formed on site so the shape, depth, steps and any integrated spa follow the design. Fiberglass is the second path, recommended when the property's space, access and an available shell form support it. We also install vinyl-liner pools and above-ground pools.
In Mount Prospect a pool cannot occupy a required front, side or exterior-side yard, and the village's 15-foot rear-line setback, described below, can shape the pool before the budget does. That is why the first visit is a site assessment rather than a catalogue. Where the yard is tight, a plunge pool or small backyard pool can leave room for circulation, seating and planting.
Mount Prospect permits and code
A pool needs a permit. The village's general rule bars construction work before the proper permits are issued (Mount Prospect Municipal Code Section 21.203), and the village's permit fee schedule lists pool installation and hot tubs. The same section calls for a survey drawn by an Illinois-licensed land surveyor and a plot plan, prepared by a licensed architect, civil engineer or land surveyor, showing buildings, improvements and grades. Its general provisions also call for plans and specifications signed and sealed by a licensed architect or structural engineer, subject to the state statutes the code cites; whether a particular pool needs sealed drawings is confirmed at submission.
The village has adopted the 2021 International Residential Code, including its appendices, with local amendments (Mount Prospect Municipal Code Section 21.106). The village requires a contractor's license for general contractors and for the electrical, plumbing and other listed trades (Village of Mount Prospect, Licenses and Permits).
In Mount Prospect, the rear-line setback and the fence rule decide more of the layout than the pool catalogue does.
Placement comes first. A pool cannot occupy a required front, side or exterior-side yard, and where it sits in the rear yard it must keep 15 feet from the rear property line to the edge of the structure; pools shallower than 25 inches at every point fall outside that rule (Mount Prospect Municipal Code Section 14.306). The same section exempts swimming pools from the maximum lot-coverage calculation. The surround is a separate matter: the village's stormwater definition of impervious surface includes hard paving and wood decks (Mount Prospect Municipal Code Section 16.202).
The barrier is next. The village's zoning fence rules call for pool-enclosing fences and gates at least 4 feet and no more than 5 feet high, with a different treatment for pools that have a raised deck at least 4 feet above grade (Mount Prospect Municipal Code Section 14.318); the barrier for a particular pool is confirmed with the village. Wave designs that enclosure into the plan and installs code-compliant pool safety fencing to it, with automatic covers or alarms where the design calls for them.
Then the ground itself. Grades in the village may not be disturbed without authorization (Mount Prospect Municipal Code Section 21.222), grading plans are required for developments (Section 16.701), and developments must include a soil-erosion and sediment-control plan (Section 16.703). These are general development rules; whether a particular residential pool triggers them is confirmed for the address. The village's residential inspection list includes, where applicable, pre-pour, underground utility, rough trade and final site and fence inspections, scheduled by the applicant (Village of Mount Prospect, required residential inspections list).

From consultation to water
We start with how you want to use the yard, then assess the property: usable rear-yard space, access for equipment, grades, drainage and the setback line. Engineers and architects are brought in when conditions require them.
Design development and engineering coordination can take about eight weeks. Custom 3D design is available as a paid add-on if you want to review the layout before approving it. See 3D pool design.
In Wave's planning, the permit stage commonly takes about one to three months; actual timing depends on the village's review. Wave handles the village permit submittal and the engineering coordination behind it.
Excavation can take a few days. After approvals and site readiness, fiberglass construction typically takes three to four weeks and concrete six to eight. Concrete work can continue in winter under a temporary tented enclosure when site conditions, weather and the approved plan support it. These are planning ranges, not schedule promises. See how we build your pool.
Budget
These are typical project-planning ranges, not quotes or minimum-price promises. Site conditions, access, size, materials, features, utilities, safety work, surrounding construction, and whether Wave handles the full project or a build-only scope all change the budget. The breakdowns are in gunite and concrete pool cost, fiberglass pool cost and in-ground pool cost in Illinois.
Around the pool, Wave designs and builds pool decks, heaters, automation and lighting, waterfalls and integrated spas, and the grading, drainage and retaining walls a site may need, so the surround is planned with the water rather than after it.

No. Swimming pools are exempt from the maximum lot-coverage calculation (Mount Prospect Municipal Code Section 14.306). Paving and wood decks around the pool do fall within the village's stormwater definition of impervious surface (Section 16.202), so the surround is planned with that in mind.
As Wave's planning ranges: design and engineering about eight weeks, permitting about one to three months, then fiberglass construction about three to four weeks or concrete about six to eight weeks. Design development, municipal review, site conditions, scope and season can change that.
Wave's typical project-planning ranges are $80,000–$150,000 for fiberglass and $120,000–$200,000 for gunite or concrete. They are not quotes or minimum-price promises; the site, access, size, materials, features and scope change the budget. Contact us to discuss project budgets and payment options.
